Retail media spans three core areas: in-store, onsite, and offsite.
In-store refers to advertising in the physical store. Retailers monetize their digital and physical ad inventory here, for example, kiosks, digital signage and in-store screens, shelf-edge displays, electronic shelf labels, or checkout screens.
Onsite refers to advertising on a retailer's own digital channels, including websites, proprietary apps, newsletters, and digital flyers.
Offsite refers to advertising delivered outside a retailer's own channels. Retailers use their first-party data to build relevant audiences and serve ads on channels such as search engines, YouTube, or social media.
