SES-imagotag digitizes retail in China – Presentation of VUSION at NRF in New York

The background is that the BOE Technology Group (BOE) has agreed with Alibaba to digitize their HEMA Fresh supermarkets.

Previously, BOE and SES-imagotag joined forces in the retail digitalization business. Alibaba has recently announced plans to open 30 new HEMA stores in Beijing alone by the end of the year. There are currently 25 in seven Chinese cities.

The concept of the HEMA Fresh stores is radical and unique. Within a radius of three kilometers, HEMA delivers all food directly to your doorstep in just 30 minutes - including freshly caught fish and seafood. This novel supermarket is the purest manifestation of Alibaba's ambitions to merge online and offline, offering customers more efficient and flexible shopping. + the best execution of omnichannel retailing to this day.

It starts with a mobile app that allows for researching of products while consumers browse the store. All payments are handled through Alipay, the mobile-payments platform owned by Alibaba. To improve consumers’ experience, the data collected from transactions is used to personalize recommendations, while geographic data helps to plan the most efficient delivery routes.

The HEMA flagship store, which recently opened in Beijing, is 10,000 square meters and therefore larger than most soccer fields. The Megastore is optimized for both online and offline shopping - 80 percent of sales are made online and 20 percent directly in the shop. Up to 7,000 orders a day can be delivered with the in-house delivery service via a fleet of modern electric scooter within a radius of 3 kilometers. And it does not take more than 30 minutes per order to be delivered.

All this is only possible through the radical and seamless combination of goods system, logistics and payment. This is particularly evident in the areas of mobile Internet, retail in the cloud and intelligent hardware. The SES imagotag solutions fit exactly to these requirements. That's why the HEMA flagship store is equipped with VUSION - the latest ESL generation from SES-imagotag. VUSION is the world´s most modular digital price tag (ESL). It offers multi-optional features in Shopper Connectivity, Channel Synchronization and Shelf-Edge Automation.

According to a 2017 study by Goldman Sachs, China's online trade will grow to $ 1.7 trillion by 2020. This market is the largest in the world anyway.

SES-imagotag wins the 2017 LSA Award for its automatic stockout detection solution

SES-imagotag (Euronext: SESL, FR0010282822), a specialist in digital solutions for physical commerce and the world leader in connected digital price tags, announces that it has received a prize for the third year in a row at the 2017 LSA Innovation Awards, in the “Merchandising” category, for its Shelf Watch automatic stockout detection solution.

The LSA Innovation Awards recognize the most innovative retailers and manufacturers selected by 40 prominent professionals in the mass retail sector.

This year, the jury awarded the prize to Shelf Watch, SES-imagotag’s automatic stockout detection solution. The geolocated digital tags, which were already awarded a prize in 2016, show the exact location of each product. The tags are now linked to surveillance cameras that track and monitor the shelves, detecting all inventory stockouts and anomalies. This information then appears on a digital store map that shows the corrective measures to be taken by store managers. With this helpful tool, staff can focus their attention on keeping shelves in perfect order, avoiding shortages and the ensuing loss of revenue, and making themselves more available for customer service.

Thierry Gadou, Chairman and CEO of the SES-imagotag group, commented: “For the third year in a row, a jury of retail professionals has recognized our R&D investments aimed at offering solutions at the cutting edge of innovation. Retail is detail. Good performance depends on having constant access to quality information that enables you to take specific actions and automate as many tasks as possible, thereby maximizing each employee's added value. For store owners, the Shelf Watch offer is a real asset because it gives them a detailed breakdown of their inventory and the condition of their shelves in real time, all while helping them optimize that inventory and product availability. Digital technology is revolutionizing the industry and making it possible to reach new levels of excellence in stores to the advantage of customers and retailers.
