Why employees apps could fail

A social platform for all employees. The best of both worlds. On one hand, you provide your employees with a platform that is both fun and enables you them to network across the board. On the other hand, you can reach all your employees with important news and information from the headquarters and enable in-store communication.

A nice idea, which unfortunately does not necessarily work - that is the experience of some retailers, including global players.

Why are employee apps more successful than intranet solutions?

  • The goal of reaching all employees and providing them with information has been around for quite some while.. Many companies have invested a lot of time and money to implement and update modern intranet solutions, such as Sharepoint.

Why are the successes of an intranet compared to employee apps rather modest?
  • Most employees in retail are non-desk, on-site and in logistics. Theoretically, they can use the intranet. In practice, not even 10% of non-desk employees regularly log into the intranet.
  • Information is not relevant enough to be read
  • Confusing and unattractive, compared to Facebook and WhatsApp
  • No internal chats and timelines for all employees
